چکیده

The elevated temperature thermal properties of zirconium diboride ceramics containing boron carbide additions up to 15 vol% were investigated using a combined experimental and modeling approach. addition B4C led decrease in the ZrB2 grain size from 22 µm for nominally pure 5.4 B4C. measured room conductivity decreased 93 W/m·K 80 also as increased. For ZrB2, was 67 at 2000 °C compared 55 A model developed describe effects second phase on °C. Differences between predictions values less than 2 25 6 when added.

Lattice thermal conductivity of ultra high temperature ceramics ZrB2 and HfB2 from atomistic simulations

Atomistic Green-Kubo simulations are performed to evaluate the lattice thermal conductivity for single crystals of the ultra high temperature ceramics ZrB2 and HfB2 for a range of temperatures. Recently developed interatomic potentials are used for these simulations. Heat current correlation functions show rapid oscillations which can be identified with mixed metal-Boron optical phonon modes. A...

Ultra High Temperature Ceramics: Densification, Properties and Thermal Stability

Hypersonic flights, re-entry vehicles, and propulsion applications all require new materials that can perform in oxidizing or corrosive atmospheres at temperatures in excess of 2000°C and sometimes over the course of a long working life. Ultra High Temperature Ceramics (UHTCs) are good candidates to fulfill these requirements. Within this family, the ZrB2 and HfB2 based composites are the most ...

Thermal Properties of SiOC Glasses and Glass Ceramics at Elevated Temperatures

In the present study, the effect of the chemical and phase composition on the thermal properties of silicon oxide carbides (SiOC) has been investigated. Dense monolithic SiOC materials with various carbon contents were prepared and characterized with respect to their thermal expansion, as well as thermal conductivity. SiOC glass has been shown to exhibit low thermal expansion (e.g., ca. 3.2 × 1...
